Unplanned outages on 28 October 2026 have pushed Puerto Rico's electrical system to capacity limits.
Two major power generation units in Puerto Rico remain offline as of 28 October 2026, with no estimated time for restoration.
The affected units are San Juan CT 5 and Aguirre 2. San Juan CT 5 was generating 160 megawatts when it shut down abruptly due to a lubrication pump failure, Genera PR vice president Iván Báez stated.
The unplanned outages have placed the island's electrical system at operating capacity limit.
