An Airbus A320 was diverted to Sofia Airport under military fighter escort on October 18 2026 following a reported bomb threat.

The aircraft was carrying 51 passengers and 6 crew. It was turned near the Romanian border, and landed safely approximately 30 minutes after the threat was received.

Bulgaria's defence ministry confirmed fighter jets were dispatched for the escort. A crew member aboard the flight first reported the threat.
